Some Things I Believe
- You are what you've shipped. Not your ideas or not your potential. What you actually shipped is the only honest evidence of what you can do, and that's a fair way to be measured.
- Care is the input. Great work doesn't come from talent or speed. It comes from spending real time on something because you genuinely care how it turns out.
- Outgrow your own work. If last year's work doesn't make me wince a little, I haven't learned anything since.
- Be the best colleague they've ever had. Make working with you genuinely good. People remember exactly who made their job easier.
- Let people own it. Real ownership means they get to do it differently than you would. If you only trust people when they'd make your choices, you never trusted them.
- Intelligence is getting what you wanted. The only proof of intelligence is whether you're actually getting what you've wanted from life.
